50. mrsir

It is 2017 at The Cave in Fairfax, Virginia. Mr. Sir is playing against a talented Yoshi main, with a level of foresight that makes it seem like he is playing in the future.

It is 2024 at Grease My Stick outside of Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Sir is playing against a talented Yoshi main, with a level of foresight that makes it seem like he is playing in the future.

Someone once said that Samus can turn back time, and there is no better example of this than Mr. Sir’s re-mergence in the Smash 64 scene after a 7 year hiatus. In the first full year since his return, Mr. Sir racked up wins vs. talented up-and-comers, and formidable veterans alike. Pushing fearlessly and without complaint into a sea of Falcons and Pikachus, Mr. Sir’s blend of defensive prowess and aggressive reads have stood the test of time. His style of play, clearly inspired by his studies of the legendary Jouske, creates a wall for his opponents, only for them to watch as he swiftly takes their stock the second a mistake is made. Whether it’s an overextended aerial by Pikachu being met by a down air, or the briefest of shields by Falcon being caught by one of his signature grabs, a minor miscalculation or seemingly inconsequential missed input turns into a catastrophic punish.

While his return to the scene was met with open arms, there are words spoken by Mr. Sir in years past that may still strike fear into the hearts of anyone looking to make a name for themselves in bracket: “I’m Mr. Sir, I play Pink Samus.”

49. Dankey Kang

“Best of 5, Pika, Kirby” are words Dankey always says at the start and end of the hundreds of smash sessions we’ve played over the last 5 years.  Even in the lowest stakes friendlies, he is always trying to push his opponents into playing their best characters and his toughest matchups so when he faces those challenges in tournament, he will be prepared.  Always competing and trying to push the limits of his Kirby, he is continually improving his game to destroy those who dare approach his well spaced uptilts.  With strong wins this year over Blondie, Boba, and Dmolz, we will no doubt continue to see Dankey continuing to knock out those who challenge him in bracket.

48. MasterHandJob

Competition is a ruthless endeavor – one is always competing to be the best, but is not always given the recognition they deserve. Others often look to talk about the best, yet forget those who are giving the ones at the top a run for their money.

Luke “MasterHandJob” Chopper is a player full of talent and vigor. Primarily known for his Pikachu in the Northeast state of Maryland, he has always been a relevant threat when it comes to major 64 events. Like a shark in the water – his presence is known, and you fear that you may run into him as you progress through the rounds. Included in his list of victims are Fray, Waxy:joe, Natty, and many more to count. His results leave a mark as well: 9th place at Prototype 4 and 25th at Keystoned VII are just some of the achievements he’s held this season.

What else is there to come of MHJ? Many more, I say. But I must warn you, and remind you: do not forget about him. His name may leave you a chuckle, but his gameplay certainly will have you fear for what he can do when left unchecked.

47. Combo Blaze

Known for showcasing his skills with overlooked characters on a big stage, Combo Blaze yet again makes competing in Smash 64 look easy with a calm shrug and a smile we can’t get enough of. He’s comfortably represented Illinois as its #1 player for some time now with his versatile cast of characters. Regarded as a quieter and respectful individual in the community, Combo Blaze will typically surprise any player he plays against with his masterful use of Captain Falcon and Donkey Kong. With the special ability to surprise his doubles partner that they’ve swiftly arrived to Grand Finals, he makes for one of my favorite doubles teammates in the whole community.

46. Box

Coming in at 46, Box continues his slow climb up the ranks. You might call him a master of Midwest Smash, and he’s part of the crew keeping Smash alive in Ohio. The Kirby main probably wanted a bigger win this year, but he was very consistent in not losing to people under his rank. Hopefully he can continue to balance Smash and life so we can see him go even higher.

45. PYT

Prideful to near arrogance, PYT is confident in his skill and for good reason. With wins on Hotline, Killer, Waxy:joe, and Box, he’s shown he can compete with many high level players. The latter in particular, Box, is a satisfying conquest. In PYT’s mind, he has been the number one player in Ohio for years, but on paper, Box has stalwartly walled him from the top spot. That was until 2024, where he held a dominant set count over his instate rival. If PYT can clean up the Falcon and Pikachu matchups, the only two characters he has lost to in the last 12 months, he will be in a great position to vault up the ranks in 2025.

44. Blondekid

Up two positions from his 2023 ranking, Blondekid once again secures a spot on the Super Smash Bros 64 power ranking. The year 2024 signifies the Southern California Pikachu main’s fourth appearance on the annual list, achieving his highest ranking to date. As a steadfast and reliable figure within the Smash 64 community, Blondekid accumulated victories against other prominent American players, including Andykins, Box, Dankey Kang, Dr. Sauce, Natty, and Sleepy Fox, while also successfully competing against notable international players such as Blacktain Falcon, Meraki, Páramo, and Wolvechen. The year 2024 marked Blondekid’s most active participation since his entry into the community, as he attended five ranked events and presented his strongest resume thus far. It is reasonable to anticipate a continuation of this upward trend in 2025 for Blondekid.

43. Bobakanoosh

One of the biggest pillars of the competitive Smash 64 community, Rochester’s TO Bobakanoosh is someone you will always find with a smile on his face in the venue. Showcasing a Falcon that is fast and sly, he has claimed wins over many Pikachu players this year using his quick pivots and countless hours of matchup practice. With a new secondary Jigglypuff in the works, trained against Rochester’s many Kirby players and a Falcon that’s snagging wins over big dogs such as KD3, Boba is looking to continue to ascend the ranks. With one eye focused on growing the Rochester 64 scene and the other eye on his rapid improvement, Bobakanoosh is a player to keep both of your eyes on in the future.

42. Dr. Sauce

Wario, Lowww, KeroKeroppi, Nax, Superboomfan, Kurabba, Robert, and Dr Sauce. What do all these names have in common? They were all in winner’s side of top 32 at this year’s Supernova. Although the doctor may have had a little luck with a certain someone blacking out of his respective division 1 pool, Sauce managed to pull off an impressive 3rd place finish in his D1 pool beating KrisKringle, PYT, Combo Blaze, and Mrsir. He also took sets off of household names throughout the year such as Shears and Andykins while managing to fend off hungry rising stars like heny. Dr Sauce has a remarkably high floor, something that may be attributed to his fundamentally sound understanding of core parts of Smash 64 – a perspective that has proven its worth time and time again not only as a threatening player, but also as an effective coach to high level players during crucial competitive sets. It’s no wonder that this skilled Kirby player also makes a living as a chess teacher, as his cerebral approach to both games serves as one of his most valuable assets. Going forward, you should expect Sauce to not only maintain that floor, but to elevate it at the same time as his ceiling, as it’s clear that he fully comprehends how to learn effectively in such difficult games like chess and Super Smash Bros.

41. Páramo

No SSB64 ranking is complete without a Mexican Mario. Landing at the # 41 spot is none other than Paramo. Another student stemming from the JaimeHR tree, Paramo is a special talent that has recently broken into the console scene. Best known on the west coast as an online hidden boss, he recently turned heads with his performance at Battle at the Border 2 touting wins over Huntsman and Sleepy Fox. Paramo boasts a strong combo game, tricky play style, and obnoxiously good recoveries. Paramo may lack console tourney experience, but he should not be overlooked, he has the talent to rise further up the rankings as one of Mexico’s premier players.
